    First off, let me start by thanking everyone who was on their computers on Wednesday.

    I’m both thankful, embarrassed, and disappointed at the same time.

    Thankful to all the many people who followed my instructions to the “T” (like in the e-mail from a concerned student I pasted below) and were looking forward to getting started.

    Embarrassed because our system totally failed everyone. Immediately at 10 minutes before launch (when the backdoor link went up), it crashed. Not only did it crash, but it continued to crash for several hours. Over 1,000 people were trying to access it at one time and what ended up happening is… NOBODY got in. Then, when it finally came back up 20 minutes later, the same thing happened. This continued pretty much all day.

    We’ve been at this a long time and we were assured everything would be fine. I’ve launched over 20 products in the past 8 years. But it was something about this launch… we never had that many people coming at the same “second” (YES, second) and I guess the database just couldn’t keep up. So yes, I’m very embarrassed and I ask for your apologies.

    I’m dissapointed because while hundreds got in, many were turned away and straight out disgusted by what was going on. Like this e-mail:

    What a HUGE disappointment! Despite having followed your instructions to the letter it proved impossible to get in. For 30-40 times I got either an SQL error (several kinds) or a “too many connections” message.

    Could you not anticipate the number of people who were likely to try, and have your system configured to handle them intelligently? Now all that you have done is alienate a load of people quite unnecessarily.

    So what will you do to compensate????

    So rather than send another e-mail and have the same problem potentially happen again, I have the best web hosting company in the world (rackspace.com) building me a monster server from the ground up. I’ve temporarily closed the website. I’m not taking any new members until I make sure it doesn’t crash again.

    I plan on opening it back up on next Wednesday, December 10, 2008. This time, I PROMISE to not have these same issues or I will GIVE you free membership for 3 months! I’m putting my money where my mouth is. Rackspace.com has assured me that what I have being built can hold 10,000 people at the same second and I feel 100% confident this time. I host my main website with rackspace and as you could see, hearandplay.com NEVER went down that day… it was only the new Gospel Music Training Center site that had the issues.

    And as the e-mail said… “What will I do to compensate?”

    Well… here’s the thing.

    Due to these problems, the super consistent students who stayed online nearly all day trying to get in eventually got in… but this was several hours later. Those who left towards the beginning of the day pretty much never came back. Some got in “between” the crashes but then received error pages after putting in their details. It was a complete mess. I’m not going to cover up anything. A MESS.

    Some thought they had “missed it” when, in actuality, it was the server that couldn’t support everyone at once.

    So it was a big disaster. Some got in, but most were basically turned away. Point blank. My fault totally.

    But like I said, I’m thankful for the 551 students that got in before I temporarily closed the site. They have already began learning from the training center (and their free dvds are on their way).

    So if you’re still willing to give the club a try, here’s what I’m going to do…

    (If you made it in, don’t worry… you’re automatically getting this).

    In addition to the “Christmas Keys” Volume One 3-hour digital download version I’m extending, you’re also going to get one of my best courses ever produced… “GospelKeys 202 – Mastering Worship Chords.” It’s 5 hours long and I’m willing to throw the digital download in there for free. That’s 2 digitally downloadable dvds ($93 in additional courses) PLUS the free dvd and bonus mystery disc I’m sending in the mail.

    I messed up with the whole server problems and I’ll pay for it. So to the person who sent me the aforementioned e-mail… that is what I’ll do to compensate.

    With my additional shipment of 75 courses (that second batch I mentioned in my 5th video came in on Wednesday)… and the 49 I have left from the original batch of 600 — that leaves me with a good 124 free dvds to work with.

    And let me tell you… had we not had those issues on Wednesday, all of these would have been GONE. That is the main reason we had the server problems. Over 1,000 people were headed towards the order form at once. The website was up… it was the order form database that went down (i.e. “too many server connections”). That is why I feel so bad. Everyone went at once and what ended up happening is NO ONE got in because it all went down… I mean the server just shut down.

    But this won’t happen on Wednesday (December 10). If it does, I will GIVE YOU 3 months of membership for free, no questions asked.

    So this is the official relaunch to close the final seats in the club for now…

    You have nothing to be sorry about. You crafted a great product release and unfortunately that came with the terrirtory. Obviously many people were interested in this offer because i’ve witnessed many of your product releases and they’ve never had this problem. I think you apologize too much in this letter. Although it is the nice thing to do, you’re only trying to help musicians out there. Where will they go? You have filled a void and people should be THANKING YOU, not you apologizing. Yes, I know there were inconveniences suffered but had the site been up and 600 flocked in immediately, it would have still been down and closed so what’s the difference?

    Yes Jermaine has something to be sorry for. That’s why he runs this wonderful company. Because he knows when to be a man and fess up. I think this letter is perfect. Jermaine is wise beyond his years. It takes real guts to do what he’s done above. He was wrong and unlike what you say about not apologizing, I think this letter is right on target.

    Like someone else said on another post, the crash could have happened for a reason. Maybe you didn’t need all those folks joining at once. Who knows? they would have eaten up all the free dvds and canceled on ya. I think the ones who stayed around mainly all day were your biggest fans and proved it. I know others won’t agree with me but i think the folks u did get were very strong. So i wouldn’t fill sorry. rejoice!

    I was one of the lucky ones who made it into the club! I have been in practicing songs for the past few days. Today I could not get in. Will the club be closed too until Dec. 10? Thanks for everything.

    No, the club will be open. We’re having so many problems with this web server and hosting company. I’m on the phone with them RIGHT NOW trying to get the site back up. All of this down time will stop on December 10 when the new, bigger server will be ready. It should be back up momentarily. Sorry for inconveniences.

    Maybe with the site being closed to new members, it can sustain itself but my guess is that this won’t be the last time until I’ve switched it over to rackspace.com (one of the best hosting companies in the world). But you should be good to go!

    @Roderick: Horror stories with them last year too! hostrocket was the company that set us up with this latest dedicated server. WE now have 4 servers we manage. 2 at rackspace, one old one at hostgator and this one at hostrocket. This server was a complete NIGHTMARE. I’m running as far as I can from hostrocket and never returning. We needed a certain type of technology to run the club that my current rackspace servers didn’t have so I went with hostrocket upon some great recommendations. Can you say, “never again?” I’ve learned my lesson. Rackspace, even though it costs 5x more than the industry standard, is who I’m sticking with for all future servers, if need be.

    “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” (or as George W. puts it… “I ain’t gonna get fooled again!”

    Jermaine, you are a Christian guy dedicated to help people to praise God through the music. Put in your mind the Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” By holding God’s hands, you will find solutions to any kind of problems that could affect your projections.

    I’m in – I missed the launch and I’m in. And I’m very thankful for that. I had a reminder on my mobile phone, but I had an unexpected business meeting at that time. I was very sad about that. I put a lot of expactations in that free DVD course, because I put my keyboard on my workdesk (it was in the corner for a few years) to start learning again. Next day I told myself I’ll give it a try. I didn’t understand why there it was still possible to order even on the next day, now I know… I was very lucky boy – I guess I’m the only one who can tell that the server crash helped me to get in… I’m waiting for my DVD till it arrives to Czech Republic. It’s great stuff in the music training center. So all of you who didn’t get in – stay tuned – Jermaine is doing his best to get in everybody or at least most of you. I joined your e-mail lessons on hearandplay.com at the same time. So a lot work to do to make some progress in my piano playing… Thanks Jermaine.

    I am one of the very blessed people that got into the Music Training Centre. I prayed beforehand that I’d get in and God sure answered my prayer. I sat at my computer refreshing over and over, I called Hear and Play a couple of times and left a message, I started up a live chat…I REALLY wanted in. And then all of a sudden there was the form in front of me on my computer ready for me to sign up and I managed to get in just before the server went down again. I did a dance of rejoicing and thanked the Lord!

    Jermaine, I admire that you’re willing to humble yourself and say you made a mess and you have more than made up for it, but truth be told you are not the first person nor will you be the last person that something like this has or will happen to. Technology is not fool proof and as with everything in life we live and learn. I think more importantly than anything else, God is more interested in how we respond in situations like this. Our response reveals our character and I can honestly say that you have shown character in all of this. No one can miss that!

    This is the best thing that has ever happened for someone like me.I could not pay enough 37.00 to get what i have learned in this training center.I was up til almost 2am this morning playing the songs. Can,t get off the piano. I am no longer embarrassed at my playing. My church that I play for will never be the same. I learned 2 songs in one day. For years I have been trying to get someone to show me what you have shown me in the training center. I can,t put a price on what I have learned.

    Jermaine I don’t know if this is the right place to leave this comment but I just had to try and contact you. I’ve been a HearandPlay fan for a long time and really thank God for you and your company. I’m writing because I’ve been reading in the zone where someone was dissatisfied with the unfortunate late shipping of one of their courses. It really bothers me when anyone has something negative to say about you and your company. You have been one of the most giving persons I’ve ever encountered. Please, please if you can, stop by the zone and let everyone know that you are unaware of this mishap and that this is not the way you do business. I’ve purchased several products and have never had a problem.
    I appreciate all you have done and don’t think it’s right what this individual is trying to do!
