Chord Progression Series
The "Secrets to Playing Piano By Ear"
course covers everything from the basics and fundamentals to Cmin13
(b9b5) chords. The preceding 5-day course was taken from Jermaine
Griggs's 300-pg piano course. This lesson (Day 5) summarizes all of
the previous lessons.
"Conclusion"
Dear Friend,
Thank you once again for giving me the opportunity to share
my free 5-day "Chord Progression series" course with you. It has been a pleasure
serving you.
Remember, chord progressions make up
songs! If you can recognize progressions, then you can literally play any song
you want. In fact, I can name 20 songs (at a time), which share the exact
chord progressions.
Just think about ... how many times have you
heard a song that sounds so similar to another song? Several times. Now,
if you knew what chord progressions were being played, you could easily play
both of those songs with your eyes closed. Being able to recognize chord
patterns and progressions is the glory of "playing by ear!"
"1-4-5" chord progressions are used heavily in
rock music. Try one ... play a C major chord (C - E - G) followed by an F major
chord (F - A - C); then to a G major chord (G - B - D); now back to an F major
chord (F - A - C); now end with a C major chord (C - E - G). This is one of
the most commonly used chord progressions of all time!

Cmaj - Fmaj - Gmaj - Fmaj - Cmaj |
"5-1" & "2-5-1" chord progressions are commonly
used at the end of songs (or choruses). These are the progressions that provide
the expected ending of the song. Try one and you'll agree that you hear these
progressions everywhere ... D minor chord (D - F - A) , G
major chord (G - B - D), C major chord (C-E-G):
|
Dmin - Gmaj - C maj
or
Dmaj - Gmaj - Cmaj |
"12-bar blues" progressions have also been around
for a long time! They usually only utilize three chords (the 1st, 4th, and the
5th ... (C maj, F maj, G maj). However, many blues progressions include
diminished chords and other alterations.
Again, I hope you enjoyed this course and
do recommend that you read about my 300-pg course. With our life-time
money-back guarantee, you have absolutely nothing to lose! I've
already given you a sneak preview ... why not try the entire course?
