wow, she changed from F major at the end to ending on a note sort of in between F and F# but really F# major so the organist played an F# major chord but the song was in F major the whole time.

The organist should have never played the chord after she sang. It should have been left as she sang it. Wrong move organist!!!! LOL!!!

I agree with Tom Tom.
The vocalist had a powerful and dramatic ending to her song whether she stayed on pitch or not.
The organist didn’t need to
add anything to that acappella ending. The organist “stole her thunder”.

She killed the pitch on FREE,,,,She changed into a modal key. Really the whole song had very serious intonation problems.

The organist played the chord trying to segue into the introductions but it was a half step up (F# major) from where Christina concluded (F). The entire song really was not in the center of the pitch…..that’s the reason she does all of the melismas (runs) she never sings in the center of the pitch.
However as for the general public, no one would have probably noticed. The organist just missed the ending pitch. Oops! You know he or she never played for a testimony service LOL!!

One of the reasons I love the SSB is because it’s usually sung in front of a ton of people, and if the vocalist is not struggling at the very beginning to hit that lowest note (the key you are singing it in) on the “say”, I’m poised for a potential train wreck. The tune is an octave and a fifth, so unless you are Mariah who can sing it in any key, and then in any key an octave above that, you better make sure that “say” is your lowest note. I’m a bit surprised that Christina blew it on the high “C”, which BTW is the BEGINNING of Mariah’s head voice. Oh well then again “Back To Basics” wasn’t back or basic or anything worth listening to. It’s too bad because the talent is there but the creativity and versatility ain’t.

Is the mistake when she sings… “On the land of the free…?”
It sounds as if she didn’t match the right tone and then decided to do some of her Christina Aguilera voice improvs..
Thanks for the video

Her entire pitch was totally off, she tried hitting the high notes without any success, she was doing a lot of screaming. she should have stayed in low key

An incredible talent singing an incredibly difficult song. She was just all over the place with pitch. I feel she used the runs (as many singers do) to compensate for vocal/performance quality. Still, she sung it with alot of “feeling” which at times did not even feel genuine.

Yes The organist played a tone higher but eventually came down at the last minute. It almost sounded like an “AMEN” or (ahhhhh men)

Also I did not like the word “Glare” It sounded just like a big blur. Did you know our Star Spangled Banner (the tune not the lyrics) was originally a drinking song played in bars on the piano. The tune really was not originally intended to be sung. It is an Octave and a Fifth which requires the singer to start very low OR ELSE!!

I don’t have a good ear at all. But I think her timing was off and it force to sing like Louie Armstong at the end.

I’m glad she did finish on her own, if her and the organist would have met, they would have clashed. The organist had the wrong key. Her singing might have sounded a little waivy as thou she might have been sliding from one key to the other. The organist probably heard her there in one key, but she left and went to another key. When he/she started playing the organ the singer was in another key. The singer was gone;0))

She did not reach the notes on the land of the “FREEEEEE”, should have stopped a bit before,on a phrase she had practiced before hand…. remember it…. ’cause with so much pressure of her sorroundings…. suck in the air to fill her lungs… not so much as to be noticeable… and then THROW it out or sing out… BUT then again as a great performer She KNEW she blew it and grabbed the notes and bluuues them out… Only You guys that know realized it…. Great going Jermaine you’r in the ball…

I think she went flat on “free” and stayed there. I don’t know what the organist was doing.

She hits many notes on the “THE” in
the land of the free, and the home
of “THE” brave. I’m sure one of them
was right. lol

I think she was a little flat on the “free” note…

Freeeee, was off…I thought it was off somewhere in the middle of the song also. She doesn’t have a high range, so when she tries to hit high notes it goes FLAT…

I tried to listen all the way through to the end but the whole thing was so tortured and overwrought, I just couldn’t do it.

Aguilera has vocal chops; she just can’t resist oversinging everything. It sounds as if she is willing to sacrifice her vocal health and a pleasant, pure tone in order to screech a high note and mask her vocal discrepancies with the overwrought runs to get the crowd excited. Uneducated fans of music fall for this frequently. Whether she actually is or not, the excessive theatrics make her appear insecure as a vocalist.

No question she has talent. I personally would enjoy hearing her sing much more if she simply relaxed, relied on her artistry more than acrobatics, and just sang.
