At last, the greatly anticipated 2016 is here and it gives me so much pleasure to congratulate everyone who made it through to the 16th year of the 21st century.
We can only look at 2015 as last year. It is gone. There can never be another 2015, forever.

The Number Fifteen
In my Christmas day post (exactly eight days ago), I made it clear that 2016 is not just a typical year. And in this post, I’m going to give you more reasons to take my word for it.
Before I talk about 2016, let me show you the significance of last year – 2015.
The number fifteen in Italian is quindicesima.
Quindicesima is a milestone figure in music in the same way the octave (eight) is important. The octave (eight) is a milestone figure in music because it takes you to a higher pitch level of whatever note you’re currently on. For example, starting from this C:
An octave will still be a C note (no doubt):
…but in a higher octave. From C to C (octave) is indeed a higher pitch level, but trust me, there’s a whole lot in between:
…and sometimes, it gets even chromatic with these accidentals (black notes):
Indeed, celebrating an octave of years is noteworthy and I did that several years ago. Read my post that marked our first octave (when Hearandplay.com turned 8 years old in 2008).
Beyond the octave lies the quindicesima (a fifteenth). The quindicesima is twice the effect of the octave. A fifteenth from C:

2016 marks the beginning of a new phase in HearandPlay.com’s existence. I’m glad that we’ve completed the first two milestone years (eight and fifteen) and still counting.
With the additions to our team from different parts of the world and lots of other projects in the pipeline, I have no doubt that the next fifteen years will be bigger and better.

We’re starting off the leap year with a free 16-week chord revival program (on this blog) that will help you surmount the challenges of chord construction, chord spelling and chord application. Here’s just the tip of the iceberg:
