“If I Only Had More Time”

Having the privilege to interact with tens of thousands of musicians online every year, I get to see the collective reasons, objections, and excuses given for not practicing or staying focused on one’s music.

And overwhelmingly, “TIME” is the excuse.

“If I only had more time Jermaine!”

I have a lengthy response to this but “time” (no pun intended) does not allow me to reply in toto at this moment. However, I’d like to share an insightful quote:

“I have only just a minute, only sixty seconds in it, forced upon me, can’t refuse it, didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it. But, it is up to me to use it. I must suffer if I lose it. Give account if I abuse it, just a tiny little minute – but eternity is in it.”
    Dr. Benjamin E. Mays

How often do you squander a “minute?”

They add up and in those squandered minutes are every goal, aspiration, and dream you’ve ever wanted to accomplish.

In short, you have the time.

Thanks Jermaine. I have trouble with wasting time – it happens so fast I hardly even realize it. But it’s amazing what one can fit in when they are being diligent! I always appreciate reminders to use my time wisely for God’s glory.

    God’s blessings to you!!

There is so much truth in what you say. Music is such a great way of relaxing and share with others. To bring joy to others as well as yourself by playing well can only be achieved by dedication and commitment to ones art.

When I think of all the time I spend watching movies or reading books when I could be making beautiful noise at the piano the way you’re teaching me!! I’m having breakthroughs by listening to your audio CD monthly lessons, and things that I couldn’t “get” for years are falling into place at lightning speed. Thanks, Jermaine, for helping me make up for lost time.

So true. How much time is spent watching television or just (as Dave Matthews would say) wastin’ time? I think if most people turned off their televisions on a daily basis, they would find more than enough time to practice and achieve the musical dreams.

Great inspiring article that gives the kick in the pants we all need at times!
