• Are you full of excuses?

    in Self-Improvement

Can’t seem to focus on taking your playing to the next level?

After watching this video, we shouldn’t have any more excuses holding us back from improving our musical skills.

(I’m not saying the playing is perfect but this clip is certainly inspiring to us folks who have all our limbs to work with).

    Quotes about excuses:

    Don Wilder
Excuses are the nails used to build a house of failure.

    Edward R. Murrow
Difficulty is the excuse history never accepts.

    George Washington Carver
Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses.

    George Washington
It is better to offer no excuse than a bad one.

    H. V. Adolt
We are all manufacturers. Making good, making trouble, or making excuses.

    Gabriel Meurier
He who excuses himself accuses himself.

    Henry Ward Beecher
The real man is one who always finds excuses for others, but never excuses himself.

    Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Nothing is impossible; there are ways that lead to everything, and if we had sufficient will we should always have sufficient means. It is often merely for an excuse that we say things are impossible.

Hi, I'm Jermaine Griggs, founder of this site. We teach people how to express themselves through the language of music. Just as you talk and listen freely, music can be enjoyed and played in the same way... if you know the rules of the "language!" I started this site at 17 years old in August 2000 and more than a decade later, we've helped literally millions of musicians along the way. Enjoy!

Yeah, I’m busy going through this site….I’m with these guys. Sack the excuses. I was just thinking about my own failed attempts to play guitar – and the fact that I play other instruments well does not change the fact that the excuses I gave for my failed guitar playing were even more inadequate than I realised. The Meurier quote above is new to me, but a very savage indictment on all the forms of musical slackness that abound.

I will remember this one for sure. Yes indeed.

I met a man at a folk music festival in Australia. He was playing a Steve Earle song on an acoustic guitar. I heard it first from a way off and thought; man, this person playing sounds sensational!!!! I turned the corner and saw this young guy playing amazing guitar. When he finished the song, he took the beer bottle holder off his right wrist and said “It’s working okay; but I wear the plectrums out pretty quick; and its a pain in the butt sewing new ones in” !!!! I saw that he had no right hand !!!! I will NEVER make excuses about my guitar playing EVER again !!!!
